How to choose cuticle nippers
Almost the entire grid on this page is the same tool under different labels: nail nippers, skin clippers, cuticle clippers, Cuticle nippers. They differ by jaw size, line, and how the brand names that line. So let's start there.
Jaw size decides almost everything
The smallest jaws are 3–4 mm. This is for spot work: thin cuticle, side sinuses, careful removal of hangnails. The most models in the catalog are 5–7 mm, this is the everyday working size: STALEKS EXPERT 90 and 91, SMART 10, 30 and 31 are available immediately in several values of this range, in EDLEN — «Mini Plus» at 5 mm and «Eyes» at 7 mm. From 8 to 14 mm they take when there is a lot of skin and you want to remove it in fewer passes: CLASSIC 10 at 11 and 14 mm, RAIZ WORK form 2 at 13 mm, EDLEN «L» at 13 mm. The longer the jaws, the less control on small areas — so in work they often keep two pairs, short and longer.
Not all millimeters in the name mean the same thing
The number «mm» in the name is the length of the cutting edge. An exception is immediately visible: in EDLEN «ROSE» and «Professional S» it says 125 mm, and this is the total length of the tool. The guideline is simple — the working part of nippers is never longer than one and a half to two centimeters, so everything larger is definitely not about the jaws.
Each brand marks its own way
STALEKS puts the line and model number: EXPERT, SMART, CLASSIC, EXCLUSIVE, PODO — then 10, 11, 20, 90, 91, 100. The model number is not related to size: EXPERT 90 exists in 3, 5, 7 and 9 mm. EDLEN labels with a word — Mini, Mini Plus, XS, M, L, Flat, Eyes, Space, plus item codes KM-01 and KM-02. OSTRO gives MINI, M and L and indicates the range (6–7, 8–9, 11–12 mm). RAIZ counts by forms — form 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 9 — in two lines, WORK and HOME. Because of this, in the «Collection» filter, CLASSIC, EXPERT, SMART, EXCLUSIVE (these are STALEKS) and WORK and HOME (these are RAIZ) are next to each other.
What in this grid is not for cuticle
A few cards are a neighboring tool, and on the fly it's easy to confuse them. Nail clippers for ingrown nails (STALEKS EXPERT 61 at 12 and 16 mm, PODO 30 at 18 mm) have different jaws and are designed for the nail plate, not the skin. RAIZ form 8 and form 9 have «nail clippers» directly written in the name. There are also micro scissors EXPERT 93, RAIZ nipper, and three manicure sets of four items. If you need exactly nails — go to nail clippers and nippers; if you need a blade on a hinge, not a spring — go to cuticle and manicure scissors; micro scissors are collected separately, in tweezers.
If you are replacing a worn pair
The safest option is the same line and the same size: your hand is already used to the opening, weight, and angle. The name of the old tool is usually visible on the handle, so take the guide from there. A small detail for searching: in EXPERT 100 at 9 mm, the name has a typo «9 m» instead of «9 mm», so this card will not come up for an exact query — scroll through the entire line.
