How to choose a cuticle remover
There are 30 items in the section, and almost all the difference between them boils down to three things: what the product is based on, its consistency, and the bottle type. The rest are series names.
Alkaline or urea
Alkaline ones are the majority: ADORE Rapid, TOUCH and TOUCH «Green Flag», EDLEN, LUNAmoon Hard, DNKa’ Alkaline, GA&MA «It’s a clean cut». They are fast. The TOUCH card states an exposure time of 1–2 minutes, in EDLEN Water — 10–30 seconds, after which the product is neutralized with water. This format is convenient for classic dry manicure and for cutting.
The other camp — with urea and enzymes: F.O.X. tech UREA, STALEKS treat.s, DNKa’ Urea, DA’23 KERATOLYTIC, GA&MA Enzyme and GA&MA with urea «for sensitive skin». GA&MA even labels the difference right in the name: Liquid Cuticle Remover Fast — fast-acting, Enzyme — gentle. If the skin is thin or the client complains of burning from the usual product, look here.
Gel or liquid
There are three gel ones in the section: LUNAmoon Cuticle Gel Remover 60 ml and MOON FULL Universal Remover Gel in 30 and 100 ml. Gel does not spread onto the sidewall and does not flow under the free edge, so it's easier to dose when working on one finger at a time. Liquid spreads faster and is more economical when treating the whole hand at once. Consistency does not affect the strength — both liquids and gels can be alkaline.
For which technique
Most cards in the section describe the product as suitable for both classic dry and combo manicures — TOUCH directly writes "before cutting", EDLEN Water advises working on one finger at a time. This is important for pace: if you apply the product to the entire hand at once, an alkaline one with an exposure time of tens of seconds will dry out on the first finger by the time you reach the fifth. For "round-by-round" work, urea or enzyme formulas with longer exposure are more logical.
Volume
ADORE Rapid is available in 5 ml — essentially a tester to check skin reaction before buying a large bottle. Next come 15, 20, 30, and 40 ml, which are the standard professional sizes. One hundred milliliters are available from MOON FULL (both formats), GA&MA Fast, and GA&MA «It’s a clean cut». A large bottle only makes sense for a product you have already tested in use: remover is used drop by drop and lasts a long time on the table.
Misleading names
- "Liquid blade" and "Soft blade" — MOON FULL Universal Liquid Blade and SHELLY Cuticle remover Soft blade. These are series names; inside they are regular removers.
- Light and Hard in LUNAmoon — a strength scale within one brand, not a category-wide standard.
- Percentages are only mentioned in the name by EDLEN. For others, look for concentration in the description or ingredients.
- Two cards for the same product: ADORE 5 and 30, KODI 15 and 30, MOON FULL 30 and 100, GA&MA 30 and 100. Same formula, different bottle size.
What you'll need alongside
Remover only softens — you'll have to remove with a pusher or curette, and for cutting you'll need nippers. After a manicure, the skin is usually rehydrated with cuticle oil.
